The Misty Archipelago is a chain of some thirty islands where Victorian elegance meets isolation, fog and old traditions. Beneath Velmoor lies something far older than its settlements: a material structure whose growing resonance distorts sea, sound and perception. Some communities preserve fragments of what earlier generations learned. Others prefer silence. Ships still arrive. Not all of them leave.

The first mention of the Velmoor Archipelago dates from 1203 — the cartographer who charted it burned his notes and withdrew into an order of silence, giving rise to a tradition the islands still preserve. For centuries the chain drew eccentrics, fugitives, and those fleeing their pasts. In 1871 a geologist discovered, beneath the largest island, a material structure far older than any settlement above it. The expedition was shut down and its documents sealed. The old Tradition of Silence endures; a separate, later contact tradition chose instead to seek contact. Neither changes what the structure is — only how people respond to its increasing resonance.

The Lighthouse at the End of the World

1887. You arrive on one of Velmoor's farthest islands under a temporary Port Authority commission as Acting Lighthouse & Navigation Inspector. Ten days earlier, keeper Edmund Voss failed to return from a survey of the western cape. Ruth Bell has kept the lighthouse burning in his absence, while the fog and the changing approaches make the old charts increasingly difficult to trust. Before dawn on the fifth day, HMS Valor is due to enter these waters. Your task is to establish what has changed around the island — and decide what to do with what you find.
